Some people think traveling while raw is impossible and challenging. Well it's not! It takes planning and thinking ahead, but many aspects of traveling take a little planning. Knowing we'd be in Iowa, I assumed there would be very few grocery or produce stores near the convention center.... my assumption was correct...
Which is why I packed everything we'd need for our 5 day getaway. My number one tip for traveling raw... BRING YOUR BLENDER!!! Blenders take up minimal room in your car and can create so many different treats. A blender can take the simplest ingredients and turn them into a feast of a meal!
We brought enough Green Juice for the first three days of our trip. If you seal the juice in an airtight container and leave NO room for air - it will stay fresh for about three days. We also stocked up on spring water, unpasteurized apple cider and kombuchas. Aside from that... salads, smoothies, chips and nut cheese, seasoned nuts, nori "beef" jerki, chocolate fudge, avocados and smoothies were on the menu.
We packed the hotel fridge....
Pushed over the microwave and coffee maker to make room for our bananas, smoothie station, and avocados....
We brought a cooler with us to keep the produce nice and cold. Don't have room for ice packs? We didn't. So we filled
ziplock bags with ice from the Ice Machine on our floor - doing this
each morning kept our cooler nice and chilly.
The tattoo convention was insanely awesome. H.H. rocked three incredible tattoos, we made many new friends and shared our raw goodies with the other artists. There's something magickal about raw food... no matter where we are, or what we're doing... we end up finding people who are interested in holistic healing and are on a healing path. What you put out there... is what you get back... even in Iowa!

we just did the exact same thing on our trip to MI. We had to go in both Nov. and this month. I don't think we would have made it w/o the Blendtec!!
